In awe of the size of this lad. Absolute unit
Visiting it for the first time. More pics later. I felt like a kid in Disneyland.

Waves.
That place is amazing. Be sure to check out Marion's Pizza for dinner. Its a local take on thin crust. There is also Arepas and Co, local Columbian food. Their pork is amazing.

The XB-70 Valkyrie is by far my favorite thing there, but the whole place is amazing. I’ve been to several aircraft museums and Dayton has the most interesting overall collection IMO.

It’s an amazing place. I only had around an hour to rush through before I had to be back on base (driving on the runway was a fun experience! ) , so I couldn’t dwell on anything, and missed the VIP and experimental hangars (I was there before the new hangar opened), but it was still really damn cool. The fact you can shove all those strategic bombers (B-1, B-2, B-36, B-52, etc.) in the hangars (easily) really shows the scale of the place.

Damnit man! There is one picture you have to take every time you go to WPAFB and you DID NOT TAKE IT. Go to the SR-71, stand at the nose, and take a pic right there so the whole plane is in frame.
Love that place. Haven’t been there since like February.

I have been to the Dulles museum as well and it was fantastic. I got chills seeing certain aircraft in the metal.

shoutout for the Grumman X-29 flying chase!

That thing was a bitch to photograph from below. I ended up laying on the floor and doing a nose to tail pan in panorama mode to get it all in shot. The ceiling lights trying to wash out the shot didn’t help either.

Agreed - I hate the lighting at Dayton. Here’s my contribution of X-29 pics
it’s possible i have an addiction to photo graphing this particular plane, though

I used to volunteer at the museum, and had access to the Experimental gallery on-base where they used to house all those X-Plane. I’ve touched the X-29.
They had them packed in like tetris pieces, without ropes. You could walk right up to them. Then smell of burned carbon chains was almost overwhelming.

I keep telling my wife we need to try Arepas and Co, but so far no luck. I’m off work early Friday and may go by myself.
I’m only a few miles from the Centerville location too.

I eat at the one on 725 across from the Subaru dealer at least once a week. They know my order by sight. Since I have food allergies, they are one of 3 places I can eat at without worrying if I’ll regret it later.
Beef empanadas are good. Their pork is just the most fantastic thing I have ever put in my mouth.

That’s the one I’m close to. We tried to go to their Kettering location when we lived near there, but they were closed due to an electrical problem.
